The WingHouse is a small project, both in size and budget, that is big in architectural ideas. It embodies a belief that architecture should be for everybody; that quality, well resolved spaces and intelligent, environmentally sustainable construction, should not be limited to large budget projects, but accessible across all stratas of the community.
The building is a carefully crafted, modern Australian family home. Its unusual geometry serves a twofold purpose. Firstly, as an environmental response to the site, providing vertical shading in the summer months and maximising sunlight penetration in winter, it also orients turbines and solar collectors in optimum positions, achieving maximum efficiencies. Secondly, the shape embraces an outdoor space, dividing the site into a northern entertaining area and a combination native and ‘working’ garden to the south.
